Increase energy, decrease cravings

February 2, 2020 //  by Kelly Menzel

How? One simple step can help you increase your energy EVERY DAY, decrease all those unhealthy cravings, and even help you lose weight….what is it?

Drink more water!

Water is the best way to balance your blood sugar (alleviating cravings) and it helps your body to function at peak performance (increasing energy). If you have fewer cravings, and you’re not exhausted, you’re less likely to consume processed, sugary, and caffeinated foods to get through your day. How much should I be drinking?

A good rule of thumb is to try to drink half your body weight in ounces each day. (for example: 150 lbs= 75 oz of water daily). Remember, flying, alcohol, and caffeine are all dehydrating, so they should be offset with water consumption. You can tell you’re drinking enough when:

  1. Your urine is light colored
  2. Your urine is abundant
  3. You have to empty your bladder every 2-3 hours. Note: when you first increase water consumption, you will need to go to the bathroom more often than you’re used to, but that will only last a few days and then your body will adjust.

My favorite water bottles

Sometimes drinking more water is simply a matter of having the right water bottle! Here are four of my favorites:

  1. Timed Water Bottle: https://amzn.to/31c4Zmq This is perfect for those of you who are goal oriented. The marks on the side of the bottle remind you to sip throughout the day!
  2. Filtered Water Bottle: https://amzn.to/2GIRxNq Are you “funny” about your taste in water? This filtered bottle will make your water taste crisp wherever you are.
  3. Infused Water Bottle: https://amzn.to/2S5QLPX If drinking water is boring, try an infused bottle. I love this one–it allows you add fruit, veggies, and herbs to your drink. I love adding strawberries, mint, and cucumbers to mine.
  4. Hydroflask Water Bottle: https://amzn.to/2tiBxif Want super cold water? This one is for you! It’s durable and will keep your water (and even ice!) cold for hours and hours.
