How can you eat better while on the road?
COUNT CHEMICALS IN YOUR DIET, NOT CALORIES. THIS IS ABOUT TRANSITIONING FROM A HIGHLY PROCESSED TO A WHOLE-FOODS LIFESTYLE.
Listen to your body during this transition because your body has an innate wisdom beyond any book or authority, that will send you signals to let you know what it needs. These messages may be faint in the beginning, but the more you tune in and listen to them, the louder they become.
Approach this transition with flexibility vs rigidity. Follow the 80/20 rule where you strive to eat whole foods 80% of the time. Even eating whole foods 51% of the time may be an improvement for you, and that is good enough! Remember, life happens – there will be times when there aren’t healthy options available to you, or you simply choose to eat a highly processed product. Eating is meant to be pleasurable…if you catch yourself judging yourself for a specific food you ate, turn back to curiosity. Ask yourself: What am I really craving or needing right now in my life?Count chemicals, not calories
- Imagine food on a spectrum. On one side, you have highly processed food such as a Twinkie. On the opposite side of the spectrum, you have the least processed food that is organic, locally and seasonally grown by your local farmer.
- While it may not always be possible to eat 100% on the farmer’s side of the spectrum, strive to eat as closely as you can to it more often than not.
